Twitterfail

Twitter always was an unreliable service, but after the DoS a few days ago they found a new failure mode: twits that are longer than 50 characters or include an URL get rejected with 403, which Web UI hides and pretends that server isn't responding. Logging out and back in helps sometimes.

I think I had enough. Seriously, I'm just going to dump small stuff into Meenuvia now and drop Twitter. It's just not worth the pain.

UPDATE 2010/02/24: Back with a client. After rejecting twitux (hideous garbage), seem to be setting on Gwibbler. It has its faults (shows empty window if Twitter API throws an error), but is more or less servicable.

UPDATE 2016/02/23: It's been 6 years now? Not bad! During this time Twitter got their performance issues under control and grew to 320 million users. They added native image service. They also found a business model: deprecate, harrass, prohibit the 3rd party clients; make the official client unavoidable; load the timeline with ads and promoted content. Naturally, with time, the ratio of force-fed content kept growing, and made the service unpleasant, although bearable. The sudden and unexpected crunch came as the #FreeStacy debacle. For now, GNU Social has to take the slack. P.S. Not only Stacy, but Larry Correia too.

UPDATE 2016/07/21: Circling the drain accelerates with banning of Milo (@Nero). He found a home at GAB later.

UPDATE 2016/09/22: Instapundit is suspended from Twitter.

UPDATE 2017/05/01: The Japanese explosion Mastodon happened, with Pawoo leading the way.

UPDATE 2018/11/25: Instapundit suspends Twitter.

UPDATE 2019/03/01: Into the Fediverse!.
