flying: Angel Fire

I am back from a short jaunt to Angel Fire (AXX), which was supposed to be the training flight before the big raid at FTG next weekend. Unfortunately, the weather was too good... All I learned is that maps are hard to read. Also, how to request the flight following.

The AXX is the nicest airport imaginable. It's one of those backcountry affairs that probably get busier in the winter. The skiing area is literally 10 minutes away (behind the N6693W in the picture). BTW, the landing and takeoff at the 5th highest airport in America were remarkably uneventful. All one needs to do is make sure that the airplane has the performance to climb even so slightly.

Sadly the fuel is not terribly cheap ($6.30 or so). Even so I felt bad about leaving without buying any.

Over the ridge at Taos, the 100LL was $5.80. Although it was a self-serve station, a young lady from the FBO thought it better to help me. She was probably right, the airport pump has a few small quirks that are absent from a street pump, like the drum that spools the hose. The grounding strap goes without saying.
